Honda has been known to provide top of the line automobiles in various market segments. The pickup truck class is no exception. Honda’s Ridgeline is known for delivering a stylish combination of a pickup truck and a luxury car. A 2017 model received various noteworthy enhancements and modifications. This leads to a conclusion that the new 2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R could suffer major changes, both in design and performance.
2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R – Under the hood
New engine could be expected under the hood of the 2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R. Current model runs on a V6 engine capable of delivering 280 HP and a torque of around 262 lb-ft. The same engine could be found with Honda Pilot SUV. The new engine is likely to be 3.5 liters 6 cylinder turbocharged engine rated at power close to 350 HP. The engine will be coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 4-wheel drive will come as standard with the new Ridgeline Type R. The mileage is expected to be upwards of 21 mpg (combined for city and highway).
It is also possible that this truck gets a powertrain similar to one in Baja Racing truck of Honda Ridgeline series. This engine is a 3.5-liter Twin Turbo V6 EcoBoost six engine with 550 horses.
Price and Release Date
2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R is likely to be available at dealership by mid-2017. There is no official word regarding the price as of now. However, it is likely to be priced in range of $35,000 to $40,000.
Designing and cabin features
Honda Ridgeline Type R looks extremely elegant. The design of this truck is different from other trucks in this segment. It looks extremely classy from the front end to rear. The truck offers ability to negotiate off road and trail tracks in addition to handling city roads.
This model is going to have four door entry, as expected. The head lamps look sharper and the front fascia looks revamped. The front grill will be redesigned as well. Tail lamps and tailgate look slightly improvised. Since the truck is currently under manufacturing, not many details are available about the interiors. Wheelbase will be more elevated and there will be ample boot space.
The seats will be made from premium leather and dashboard will have wood based finishing. Expect heating and ventilation features to come as option from Honda this time around. The new Ridgeline will house five passengers which will enjoy in an 8-inch infotainment system. Other features include Eco assistance system, Tracking system for Tire Stress, Alert mechanism for lane departure, proximity sensing, etc. Safety equipment is expected to be standard.
The 2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R is expected to be a bit more expensive than rival trucks in the segment. However, the extra mint spent may well be worth it because the truck looks premium and elegant while offering a decent fuel economy as well.
