Nissan’s new generation Frontier pickup truck isn’t ready yet. However, since we managed to catch several testing models over the year, we assume it’s going to be ready most likely at the beginning of 2018. Of course, just like the full-sized Titan, the truck maker will introduce the all-new 2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel first, most likely at the 2018 Detroit auto show, and then the gasoline powered model sometime later in 2018.
2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel: Engine and Platform
Judging by the latest information, the 2018 Frontier Diesel will definitely keep the current oil-burner engine. However, the 2.8-liter Cummins diesel four-cylinder will come updated, so you can expect more power and better efficiency under the hood of Nissan’s compact truck. Unofficially, the engine will get approximately 5 percent more power over the current 200 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the mill will stay paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
We are not so sure how the car manufacturer plans to boost fuel economy of the truck. However, the latest rumors indicate that the producer plans to upgrade the existing platform. The architecture will reportedly shed some weight by using some lightweight materials. In addition, they should also improve the existing suspension system, so the new generation pickup truck should get better riding characteristics without any doubt.
Redesign Changes and New Features
Exterior styling will be completely changes of course. However, the 2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel will get a revolutionary redesign, so it will stay recognizable without any doubt. The most important change will be a new footprint. The compact truck will rise a little bit. More precisely, the vehicle will be longer and wider, which the wheelbase should stay untouched.
Styling wise, the 2018 Frontier Diesel will reportedly borrow most of the new design cues from the bigger Titan XD. The smaller sibling will feature pretty much the same front-end styling and rooflines, while the rear end might feature different taillights and tailgate. In addition, the car manufacturer will significantly boost truck’s interior design. The new cab will feature better quality materials and Nissan’s latest infotainment system. Plus, the producer will add the latest safety feature as well.
Estimated Price and Release
As we said, the 2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel will be introduced early next year at the 2018 NAIAS. However, the redesigned truck won’t become available until next summer. As for the price, it should cost at least $28K.
