It has been 12 long years since Nissan came up with its Frontier truck and yet it has failed to come up with a newer model. Car enthusiasts, however, predict that a new vehicle is on the way and it may include a couple of changes taken from recently improved Nissan Titan. 2018 Nissan Frontier aims to compete with Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma. Experts believe that this pickup will share its overall rendering with NP300 Navara.
Like most of the mid trucks in this price range, Nissan promises to make this value for money vehicle. Titan has already received updates, and now Nissan is planning to upgrade its smaller brother Frontier.
2018 Nissan Frontier – Powertrain
New Frontier might retain the diesel powertrain from its previous models. Nissan, however, plans to get rid of the 2.8-liter Cummins engine. It may be replaced with new set of engines from Navara. The Nissan Frontier Pro trim might come with a 2.5-liter 4 cylinder engine. Paired to a 7-speed automatic transmission this mill will deliver 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque.
2018 Nissan Frontier might include a turbocharged 2.3 liters diesel engine. Nissan claims that this engine can churn out a maximum of 200 HP and almost 350 lb-ft of torque. Even though it has amazing outputs this powertrain stays for now only a rumor. What is definitely sure is that bigger V6 will be one of the options under the hood of the new Frontier. We are talking about 4.0-liter V6 that will be also matched to a 7-speed auto gearbox. This powertrain will produce 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Both rear- and all-wheel drive will be offered as an option.
2018 Nissan Frontier Design
Exterior
The new 2018 Nissan Frontier might resembles the Navara in terms of appearance. Although nothing more than spy photos have been released till date, truck lovers expect some minor changes in terms of its looks. Newer sets of grilles could arrive along with larger LED headlamps. Nissan aims to target its US-based trucks by making them visually more appealing.
2018 Nissan Frontier retains the unique V-shaped chrome insert. The cargo rails fit well, and care is taken to ensure that the load remains stable throughout the journey. Although this is not meant to be an off-roader, it surely performs well in tougher terrains. The new Frontier might get alloy wheels with multiple V-shaped chrome inserts.
Interior Features
From the inside 2018 Frontier promises maximum comfort with ergonomic seats for the passengers. Plus the dashboard gets a host of new improvements. It includes larger shinier dials which perform better and look good. The rear adjustable seats can be re-positioned according to one’s needs.
The center dashboard is wider than before and has got shiny paints to keep the driver glued. Nissan promises exceptional infotainment services in the form of larger screens with shinier dials. New Frontier might resemble the X-Trail in terms of cabin improvements, and satellite navigation will aid the occupants to keep track of their route.
Pricing and Release Date
Expect the new 2018 Nissan Frontier to be available at no more than $20,000 for the base trim. The price will rise for the trims with richer interior and better powertrain. The release date is not quite clear but it is expected that this truck hits the US roads by the end of this year.
Forget about diesels they won’t sell well and will not sell in Northern climates of North America
For a certainty the little diesels sold in other parts of the world will never sell in North America.
The V6 will be the one that is most sold ,Nissan already knows this.
Nissan will use a v6 and a i4 gasoline engine line up.With v6 making up most of the sales.
What remains to be seen is will Nissan stay with the crude 4.0 liter or go with a more refined engine 3.7 or 3.5 . it is a mistake if they stay with the crude 4.0 liter and will cost them considerable sales.
Is that why you will pay well over list for the Chevy Colorado Diesel?
