Ram is definitely preparing an answer on Ford’s new generation Raptor. The truck manufacturer is getting ready to introduce a production version of the Ram Rebel TRX Concept that was shown last year at shown at the Texas State Fair last September. The vehicle should be ready for the official debut early next year, most likely at the 2018 Detroit auto show. Unofficially, it’s going to be named the 2018 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX.
2018 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX: Platform and Engine
The high-performance off-road pickup truck will reportedly use the same body-on-frame platform as the regular 1500. Of course, the architecture will suffer some much-needed upgrades, while the truckmaker should also add a special suspension system. More precisely, the front axle will stay untouched, while in the rear, the vehicle should feature link coil setup as the street truck.
However, the heart of the 2018 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX will be its might engine. The truck will use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 gasoline unit, which is capable of producing up to 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of twist. Even though it would be fantastic to see the Ram 1500 with that amount of power, the production model won’t get all ponies. No, the RAM will probably stop at 575 horsepower, which is more than enough to beat Raptor’s 450 hp strong 3.5-liter twin-turbo powertrain. Rebel’s mighty mill will be backed up with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Design and Features
Styling wise, the production model won’t look too different from its concept version. The pickup will get an attractive front end with a unique grille and enough air intakes to cool-off the engine, as well as pretty massive skid plates. Of course, the truck will also keep concept’s beadlock wheels, 37-inch tires, and performance shocks.
Estimated Price and Arrival
Even though the car manufacturer hasn’t revealed official price yet, we are pretty sure the 2018 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX must be more expensive pickup truck than the Ford F-150 Raptor. Moreover, the latest reports suggest that it is going to cost at least $55,000, which is $5,000 over the base Raptor. Still, taking into account that you would get at least 125 hp more, that’s pretty fair price to pay. If the manufacturer really introduces the high-performance truck next year at 2018 NAIAS, you can expect to become available in dealerships before next summer.
