With 34 percent of the full-size pickup market in the US, GM is holding the second place, right behind the undisputed leader Ford. However, its last year’s sale has been decreased for 1.7 percent. That was a clear signal that some changes are necessary, and management from the GM has instantly reacted. In this year’s Detroit auto show they already have presented new 2019 Chevy Silverado. Apparently, its sibling Sierra is also on the way.
The official news is that the new 2019 GMC Sierra will have its debut on March the 1st in Detroit. The new truck will adopt Silverado’s lightweight frame made of high-strength steel and a wide bed floor. The design will probably also be very similar, but some specifics like headlights or front grille should be unique. The biggest differences will arrive with the top-end Denali trim which will also be presented on the same day.
2019 GMC Sierra Denali – Engine Options
New GMC Sierra will share powertrains with Silverado truck and Denali model will be powered by V8 mills. The smaller V8 will be a 5.3-liter EcoTec. This engine applies active fuel management and Variable Valve Timing. It delivers 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The bigger engine is a 6.2-liter EcoTec with 420 hp and torque of 460 lb-ft. Both engines should be matched with the new Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission.
The new 2019 GMC Sierra Denali could also arrive with the diesel powertrain. In that case, the engine under the bonnet could be GM’s Duramax 3.0-Liter I-6 Turbo Diesel. So far the outputs of this mill are unknown but it is certain that it will be also paired with the same automatic transmission.
2019 GMC Sierra Denali – Design
Even though the 2019 GMC Sierra Denali will borrow the frame and bed from the new Silverado, its famous luxurious design will stay distinctive. Overall, the truck will be slightly bigger than its predecessor, but that will not affect the total weight due to a usage of the light materials. The front side of the truck will suffer some significant changes. High-performance LED headlights will receive different shapes while the front bumper should be even more massive than before. The familiar curtain air intake will stay as it is holding the GM’s logo in the middle. Chrome details matched with the metallic body paint will still give Denali models some specific glow. The 20-inch alloy wheels will come as standard while unique 22-inch chrome-accentuated wheels will be offered optionally.
The inside of the new 2019 GMS Sierra Denali will inherit well-known premium interior look. The high-quality materials combined with the latest GM’s features guarantee comfort. Since the new truck will be slightly bigger than before, the interior will be more spacious. Both, front and rear seats will be perforated with leather upholstery. Contrasting stitching and aluminum accents will additionally give on luxury. Front seats will be power-adjustable and are heated and ventilated.
The 8-inch touchscreen equipped with the latest IntelliLink infotainment system will dominate the dashboard. Features like navigation, voice command, smartphone compatibility and 4G WiFi hotspot will also come as standard with all Denali models.
The safety was always a very important issue for the GM, which is why the 2019 Sierra Denali will be packed with features that will prevent any unwanted situation. All models will arrive with Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Front and Rear Parking Sensors and Cameras.
Price and Release Date
Bearing in mind that Sierra Denali is a premium model its price will not be low. The current truck costs around $52,900 and the price of the next generation could go only up. However, this unique pickup is packed with amazing features combined with the top-quality materials and great performance and it’s not built for everyone. Its official debut is scheduled for March the 1st which means that it should be available at dealerships by the middle of this year.
