The mid-size Chevy Colorado offers lots of options and there are also three engine units to choose from. Colorado also has a good interior and ZR2 versions are there when the additional off-road capability is needed. The truck can also be configured as the work-oriented version at an affordable price or add more expensive goodies to make it more refined and sophisticated vehicle.
Chevy Colorado is now faced with more challenges after the introduction of the Ford Ranger and Jeep Gladiator but there is also the refreshed Toyota Tacoma and soon to be redesigned Nissan Frontier. However, since the arrival of the new models, the Chevy Colorado continues to maintain the second potion at the sales chart behind the class-leading Toyota Tacoma. The mid-size Chevy has, actually, the biggest sales growth in the Q1 2019 with the sales 16.1 percent up while Tacoma has grown for 8.2 percent. The Ford Ranger hasn’t performed as expected but that should change in the future.
However, despite the expansion of the class and arrival of upgraded rivals, the 2020 Chevy Colorado returns to the race with minor upgrades for the new model year. The new model year won’t bring any substantial mechanical or design upgrade. There will be some options deleted from the model line and some package upgrades. Chevy will also bring the new version with the revised availability of some features.
2020 Chevy Colorado: Design
The Chevy Colorado is a nice-looking pickup truck and it looks nice in every version. Chevy hasn’t changed the styling of the model since the introduction of the current generation in 2015 and that won’t change for the new model year either.
The 2020 Chevy Colorado will appear with the same styling and there will be different forms of it depending on the chosen trim. The grille style and color of bumpers will change with each version and the off-road-oriented versions will also make a different visual impression. The off-road models will get more rugged appearance thanks to the additional off-road gear and enhancements.
As for the changes related with model’s exterior, Chevy will offer the EZ-lift tailgate as the standard equipment with LT trim. Remote locking tailgate will be available on Work truck version as an option.
The interior of the 2020 Colorado won’t also be the subject of major upgrades. The model will make some changes in equipment organization and availability but won’t bring many new or upgraded features.
For the new model year, Chevy won’t offer Jet Black/Dark ash leather-appointed interior. The Jet-black leather interior will be available on the LT trim but it will require Luxury package and Crew Cab body style.
There will also be some changes in the availability and content of some packages. The Z71 model will now be available with Safety Package which includes forward collision warning and lane departure alert. Redline Luxury Special Edition and RST Luxury Special Edition packages will be discontinued. Chevy will also rename Chrome Luxury package to Luxury Package and offer it on the Crew Cab models only. RST Special Edition and Redline Special Edition will come with Luxury package.
2020 Chevy Colorado: Powertrains
The 2020 Chevy Colorado will again rely on the same powertrain range. Chevy will, however, discontinue 2WD Z71 Extended Cab and 2WD Z71 Crew Cab Long bed from the model line.
The base powering unit remains a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine combined with the six-speed manual gearbox. This unit produces 200 hp and torque of 191 pound-feet.
Buyers will again be able to opt for the 3.6-liter V-6 combined with the 8-speed automatic transmission. This combination will improve performance to 308 hp and 275 lb-ft.
The best towing will provide a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine. This unit will produce 181 hp and torque of 369 pound-feet. The turbodiesel unit will come in par with the six-speed automatic transmission. This combination will allow the towing limit of 7, 700 pounds while the V-6 powered Colorado will tow up to 7, 000 pounds.
Chevy will again offer Z71 and ZR2 versions with the upgraded off-radio capability.
