2020 Ford F-250: Changes, Equipment, Price

The pickup trucks continue to be the most popular vehicles in the US and they are evolving to more powerful and sophisticated machines almost annually. Ford remains to be a dominating brand in the pickup truck industry but after the arrival of the all-new Ram and GM trucks, Ford is surely filing a pressure. However, the Blue Oval brand knows how the deal with the pressure and the brand continues to define boundaries in the segment.

In that vein, Ford recently presented the updated heavy-duty models and there are improvements on all fronts. The updated 2020 Ford F-250 and other members of the Super Duty family bring more power and new powertrain choices for the new model year. Ford also promises improved towing and hauling capability and some best-in-class ratings. The Blue Oval brand hasn’t yet disclosed what the upgrades mean in numbers but these should be known soon.

Aside from the new engine option and upgraded performance, the new F-250 and the rest of the lineup come with the tweaked exterior styling and more tech. There are more standard features as well. The models will appear in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trims.

Ford expands the powertrain range of the Super Duty series with the new gas engine while the turbodiesel returns in the upgraded form. The new 10-speed automatic transmission is also in the list and will be available with all engine options.  

Ford hasn’t yet said what are the power and torque ratings of the new 7.3-liter V-8 gas-fueled engine but promises the best performance in class among other gas engines. This new unit will be optional on the 2020 Ford F-250 and paired with the new 10-speed automatic transmission and will likely be the payload champ.

The current 6.2-liter V-8 will remain the base gas unit and returns with the six-speed automatic transmission. Ford hasn’t also mentioned the power and torque of this engine yet. In the current form, it delivers 385 hp and torque of 430 pound-feet while can carry up to 7, 680 pounds in the cargo bed.

The towing champion will remain the 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 which comes upgraded and combined with the 10-speed automatic gearbox. The capability of the updated V-8 diesel engine is still a mystery but thanks to the improved direct injection system, upgraded turbocharger and strengthened internal elements, the engine will beat the current, already impressive ratings of 450 hp and 935 pound-feet of torque. 

With more power and higher torque, the F-250 will also improve the towing capability which is up to 18, 500 pounds now.

2020 Ford F-250: Design

Ford put the focus on the performance upgrades but there are also notable styling changes as well. The new 2020 Ford F-250 comes with the revised front-end styling where it gets a new, more prominent grille version and restyled LED headlights. The front bumper is also optimized for better aerodynamics and cooling.

There are other styling changes like the taillights with new graphics and redesigned rear bumper. The fog lights have also a tweaked design.

The F-250 returns in three cab styles and two cargo bed options are also available. The model will start with 17-inch wheels and grow the size of the wheels up to 20 inches.

Interior, equipment:

The interior of the model hasn’t experienced notable design changes and there are new trim accents and upgraded upholstery in some versions.

The model gets, however, a number of tech and safety features and more standard equipment. Every version will include 4G LTE connection with the Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. Available will also be wireless charging and USB-C ports.

Ford will also offer advanced safety systems in most versions. The XLT trim and above will include standard safety equipment such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with trailer monitoring, and automatic high-beam control. The base trim will get some advanced safety systems optionally.

2020 Ford F-250: Release, Price

The refreshed 2020 Ford F-250 and other models from the Super Duty series will go on sale this fall. Ford will reveal the price and power, torque and towing ratings closer to the market launch. The three-quarter-ton F-250 should again cost from around $35,000.
