2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R should finally see the daylight

Honda has made us wait a long time to deliver a high-performance pickup truck. Hopefully, after the release of their Civic Type R model, it is fair to expect the same technology to be used with the latest Ridgeline truck. If it receives those sport upgrades, new Ridgeline Type R will be a category of its own in the truck world. Combining performance of the standard pickup truck with the tuned-up powertrain, sporting enhanced suspension and rugged racing seats this model will be fun to drive on and off roads. Aside from that, with this move, Honda could easily provoke the return of other sport utility trucks like Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado SS.

2020 Honda Ridgeline – Engine Performance

This long-awaited sports truck could hit the roads in a few years, probably as 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R. The reason for this delay is that it should have its own, recognizable design and upgraded powertrain. The engine would be the same 3.5-liter V6 used with the standard Ridgeline truck. However, this engine delivers 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque which is not enough for the sport model.

With the assistance of the upgraded VTEC system and new 6-speed manual transmission, the new tuned up mill should produce 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. All the variants of Ridgeline Type R will feature four-wheel drive, for better traction and to balance the extra power of the engine. The acceleration from 0 to 60 mph should be in less than 5 seconds. The top speed could be close to 170 mph. The average fuel consumption is 21 miles per gallon. This is quite reasonable keeping in mind about the beefy nature of the engine.

2020 Honda Ridgeline – Possible Design

The 2020 Honda Ridgeline should look extremely good and is unique in the truck segment. The exterior gets a whole new facelift on both the front and rear ends. The headlamps will be really sharp and the front grill will get a new signature look. The issue with the clearance will be solved with the adaptive dampers with three modes: Comfort, Sport, and +R. This will help new Ridgeline to adapt better to the road conditions. Wheels could be 19 or 20 inches, made from lighter-weight alloys.

The interior also gets a sporty upgrade, black leather accessories with red accents, polished wooden dashboard. The truck features four-door with five-passenger seating option. The infotainment system will receive upgrades with a dedicated audio system and 8-inch capacitive touchscreen. Also, other gadgets from the top trim package should be present. Some of them are tri-zone climate controls and Honda satellite link navigation system with voice recognition. Aside from this, Type R signature must be present inside the truck. The racing leather seats with red stitching and Type R logo are an indispensable part of the interior.

The safety features should include front and rear six-piston Brembo disc brakes, Vehicle Stability Assist, Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake Distribution with Brake Assist. To prevent accidents Ridgeline also offers Collision Mitigation Braking System, to automatically apply brakes if a vehicle too close to the front, Curtain Airbags to prevent damage during rollovers and many more.

Predicted Price and Release Date

The price of the 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R will not be negligible for sure. It will probably cost similar as the top trim Black Edition. This means it will be close to $43,100. However, making a parallel with the Civic Type R it could go even higher since the price of the sports version of Honda’s hatchback is $6,200 higher than the price of the regular model. If they decide to start production of this sport pickup truck, Honda will need some time to release it because they have to invest in a brand new design and find the way to tune up the engine. For these reasons, it is real to see the new Ridgeline Type R hitting the road in 2020.
