Mazda and Isuzu made a joint effort to transform the mid-size Isuzu D-Max into the relevant Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara and Ford Ranger rival. The newest, third-generation Isuzu D-Max took the best from both brands and with Isuzu’s already proven capability and ruggedness the newest version benefits also from Mazda’s sophistication and refinement. The new Isuzu ute comes with significant structural upgrades and reinvented exterior design. The new version lifts also the cabin refinement to the next level and comes loaded with modern infotainment and safety technologies. The upgraded powertrain and suspension should also provide better ride quality and capability and the rear differential lock is again available for a more extreme ride.
The redesigned D-Max is also available in various trim options and cab styles and the premium 2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is again a part of the inventory. This version gets specific exterior treatment and comes also with the feature-loaded cabin. The D-Max V-Cross packs modern safety systems and upgraded infotainment setup as well. Depending on the market the model will be available with one of two diesel units.
2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross: Design
The redesigned 2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is improved both structurally and visually. The model benefits from the near all-new chassis which is around 80 kg lighter with 20 percent improved rigidity as Isuzu claims. The increased use of high-tensile steel and aluminum alloy helped to achieve better structural rigidity alongside reduced weight.
The 2020 D-max V-Cross comes also with the new body panels and specific trim inserts. Isuzu calls the theme used for the latest D-Max style “Infinite potential”. The model has a more aggressive presence thanks to the redefined front fascia and sharper body sculpting.
The V-Cross gest attention with the large, signature grille combined with the sporty front bumper. The Isuzu’s new Vision Bi-LED headlights are also the eye-catchy feature. The new D-Max V-Cross comes also with the LED fog lights and faux skid plate.
The dark theme details such as the headlight surrounds continue also on the profile side in the form of the black fender over-flares and black door handles.
The rear benefits from the new, more integrated bumper style and redesigned LED headlights. The V-Cross version gets also unique, dark-themed wheels.
The cabin of the new-generation Isuzu D-Max underwent also a serious overhaul and received modern tech capabilities.
The new version has a redesigned dash with the hexagonal center stack but there is also a new steering wheel, restyled AC vents, new gear shifter, and more.
The V-Cross version comes with the 8-way power front seats, rear air vents and dual-zone automatic climate control. The part of the equipment list is also a large 9-inch center touchscreen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto support and another 4.2-inch digital display is present in the instrument panel between gauges.
The D-Max V-Cross uses also specific, two-tone black and brown leather upholstery combined with contrasting silver inserts. The black only leather is also available.
The third-generation D-Max employs also modern safety technologies including blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert front and rear parking sensors while some markets should also get automatic emergency braking.
2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross: Performance
The new Mazda/Isuzu made 2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross benefits also from various performance-oriented upgrades. The new, stiffer chassis and revised suspension will provide better ride quality and capability. The improved braking system and new electromagnetic rear differential lock are also part of the upgrade.
The new Isuzu D-max is available with two diesel engines depending on the market. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel is again present but in the upgraded form with the new variable geometry turbocharger and improved high-injection pressure. The engine is in pair with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The unit delivers upgraded power and torque compared to the previous version rated at 188 hp and 450 Nm.
The new-gen Isuzu D-Max comes also with the punchy 1.9-liter turbodiesel capable of producing 150 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
The diesel units are also upgraded with the new emersion norms in mind and should deliver a better fuel economy.
2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross: Availability, Price
The availability of a model depends on the market. The 2020 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross will reach some markets later in the year. The price should be notably higher.
