Ram presented the off-road-ready 2021 Ram Rebel TRX and it is coming this winter to challenge so far unchallenged Ford F-150 Raptor.
Ram hinted an arrival of this version at the 2016 Texas State Fair when it showed a supercharged Hemi V-8 equipped Ram Rebel TRX concept. The concept version was based on the half-ton Ram Rebel but packed with the serious off-road hardware, suspension upgrades, wider body and massive power. With the new Ram 150 TRX the recipe is the same but applied to the fifth-generation Ram 1500 introduced for the 2019 model year.
The production-ready Ram Rebel TRX uses slightly detuned, supercharged Hemi V-8 mixed with the thoroughly strengthened chassis and off-road-tuned suspension. The upcoming Ram TRX gets also attention with a strong presence but a well-equipped and luxury cabin is also part of the deal.
2021 Ram Rebel TRX: Chassis and Suspension
The new 2021 Ram Rebel TRX has got serious chassis and suspension upgrades to be able to handle extreme riding conditions.
The Rebel TRX is based on the new-generation, half-ton Ram 1500 Rebel but Ram claims that the model’s frame is just 25 percent of the regular version. Engineers added thicker and heavier rails and more high-tensile steel is infused to provide greater torsion rigidity and strength.
The truck uses an independent front suspension setup with active damping while a Dana 60 solid axle with coil springs underpins the rear side. The TRX model has got sophisticated Bilstein Blackhawk e2 adaptive shock dampers.
The off-road suite includes also an electronic rear differential and a BorgWarner full-time transfer case. The Ram TRX is also 6 inches wider than the regular version for additional stability and rides on 0.8 inches longer wheelbase. A longer wheelbase is there to open room for massive 35-inch tires.
The truck features also 11.8 inches of ground clearance. The model’s front-wheel travel is 13 inches while the rear wheel travel is an inch higher. The Ram Rebel can go through 32-inch deep water.
The new Ram Rebel TRX gets the power from the mighty, supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 engine. The engine is good for 702 hp and torque of 650 lb-ft. The engine works in the mix with the heavy-duty, advanced four-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission sourced from Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The model gets also multiple drive modes including Sport, Snow, Auto, Tow, Custom, Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja. The TRX is also the first Ram truck with launch control and launch assist.
The Ram Robel TRX can hit 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. The towing capacity is up to 8, 100 pounds.
